Ethan Velasquez

Ethan Velasquez was born and raised in the seaside Caribbean community of Dangriga in the Stann Creek District of southern Belize. He is a husband, a father, an author, and an activist for all things Garifuna. He is the Co-owner of DYFA Garifuna Radio, the Producer of the International Sisira Competition, and the Founder of Nuguya Garifuna Production. In his first book, Ethan Velasquez introduces the world to the calabash tree and highlights the many ways the calabash gourd is deeply rooted within the spiritual and cultural traditions of the Garinagu communities across Belize. He currently resides in Dangriga with his wife and two children.
